1. How do I get to Pelee Island?

You can reach Pelee Island by ferry from Kingsville or Leamington, Ontario, or from Sandusky, Ohio. The ferry ride from Kingsville or Leamington takes about 90 minutes, while the trip from Sandusky takes approximately 2 hours. 2. Do I need a passport to visit Pelee Island?

Yes, if you’re traveling from the United States, a passport is required. Pelee Island is an official port of entry into Canada, so you’ll need valid travel documents to cross the border.

3. What are the best things to do on Pelee Island?

Pelee Island offers a variety of activities. Exploring Canada’s most southern point the Fish Point Nature Reserve, or Lighthouse Point Nature reserve. Many choose to bike around the island as a way to digitally detox in nature and spend time on our public beaches! A visit to the Pelee Island Heritage Centre will give you a great glimpse of the island’s history, and its unique biodiversity of plant and wildlife that call Pelee home. A stop at The Butterfly Sanctuary & Teaching Garden for a tour is a must if you want to get up close and personal with these important and majestic pollinators! Shopping for local artisan treasures is the best way to savour your memories of Pelee Island!  A visit inside our One of a Kind Pelee Art & collectibles or Pelee Artworks will inspire your own creativity and satisfy your craving for something island made! Pelee souvenirs can also be found at The Shack shop, The Pelee Shop and at Pelee Island Adventures shop! 4. Is there public transportation on Pelee Island?

No, there is no public transportation, no taxi or shuttle services. Please prepare accordingly when you book your ferry reservation with your own transportation or pre book a bike or golf car rental.

5. Are there any canoe, kayak, jet ski or boat rentals on Pelee Island?

Not at this time.

6. How big is Pelee Island?

It’s 42km squared… it takes approximately 45 minutes by vehicle to drive the perimeter of the island or 4 hours by bicycle. For the best Pelee island experience it is recommended to have some form of transportation that can handle paved and gravel roads.

7.  When is the best time to visit Pelee Island?

Summer is the most popular season, with warm weather and most attractions open. Spring and fall are ideal for those seeking a quieter experience. Plan your visit from late May to the end of September to ensure you have access to all island amenities.

 8.  Are there grocery stores or ATMs on Pelee Island?

While there’s no full grocery store, the local co-op provides basic grocery items, hardware items and is also the location for Canadian postal services and the gas station. 

An ATM is available at Stone House 1891, located near the ferry dock. Be sure to bring everything you need, as options on the island are limited, and hours of service are reduced for island life.

9.  How do I get around Pelee Island?

You can explore Pelee Island by personal vehicle, walking, biking, or driving golf carts. https://thepeleeshop.com/  Offers a great selection of children’s and adult pedal bikes. They also have electric bikes and cargo carriers.

 Electric Bikes and golf carts can be rented from https://peleeislandadventures.com/rentals/  located 2 mins turning right from ferry docks. Plan for about 4 hours to bike the island’s perimeter.

10.  Is there cell phone service and internet access on the island?

Yes, but coverage can be spotty. Bell and Telus have towers on the west side, and Rogers is on the northeast. For internet, many accommodations offer satellite WiFi, but public WiFi is limited. Be prepared for potential roaming charges near the south shore.

11. What emergency services are available on Pelee Island?

Pelee Island has a first-rate clinic, volunteer fire department, and 24/7 emergency services. For emergencies, dial 911. Air ambulance services are also available for critical situations.

12.  What should I bring to Pelee Island?

Pack everything you might need, including groceries, bug spray, and cash. Gasoline is available at the co-op and Scudder Marina, but it’s more expensive than on the mainland. Double-check your list to ensure you have all essentials.
